Battle Cry...

This week I saw a post by a young man that really inspired me. A 17yr old who was recently diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, and despite the enormity of such a diagnosis for a young person to comprehend, he has got such a great attitude towards it. He has a headstrong approach in treating it with the contempt it deserves.

This young guy happens to be in my extended family circle. To see the way he is taking it is incredibly cool. He’s pissed that he’s lost his hair - but it’ll grow back. But it has done something bigger than anything else, it has shown him the unequivocal love between him and his family, friends and loved ones.

I have seen the effects of cancer throughout my family and in some friends. My mum, sister and sister in law have all battled and won in recent years. They have all got through with support of those around them, the wonders of modern medicine and lucky enough to live in a country where the health service is such an amazing asset to every person who have ever needed it.

Cancer is an indiscriminate disease. It knows no boundaries and no morals. It doesn’t care if you are rich or poor, young or old. It can come when least expected and nothing can prepare for its affects, but the strength of your family, friends and loved ones is what makes you stronger than any cancer.

Should you ever have to face the ‘Big C’ in any capacity, remember that you are stronger and you’re a survivor - this is part of the journey, and you are bringing the fight to it. So let your battle cry roar!

Everyone you meet is fighting a battle you may know nothing about. Be kind.
