Sink or Surf...?

Sometimes we find ourselves surrounded by people who dwell on negativity. On self pity or those who look for excuses why they can't do something; rather than reasons why the should. Both professionally and personally we all know people that fall into this remit.

These kind of people can suffocate us - but only if we let them. They can make us question our initiative, our ability or our intention.

How many of us have heard the saying "a ship doesn't sink because because of the water around it; ships sink because of the water that gets in them". Don't let what's happening around you get inside you and weigh you down. Negativity has a way of trying to get inside. Whether its inside your thoughts, inside your words or inside your actions; it can be all around us like an ocean and if we aren't careful it's all too easy at times to let the cracks grow and then the water, like negativity, starts to seep in. Before you know it you are treading water or worse still you are struggling to keep your head above the waterline.

However, it is incredibly important to not shut yourself away. Do not ever try to hide from problems and to avoid the conflict of others and ultimately yourself in facing what it is around you. Another way to look at it is if you close yourself down, not only will you drown but your fire will be extinguished in the process. A fire doesn't burn by what's inside - it only burns when it takes in oxygen. It needs fuel too. Basically to succeed in whatever you set out to do, you must first take in what you need to make your passion burn. Look to what

When you are conscious of what's around you it is easier to plug the cracks that let the negative in. It then becomes easier still to spot the positive which will fuel you on your journey.

Remember, regardless of those who would do what they can to drag you under, you can always tread water. You can swim or better still you can surf those waves towards better things. All this and you can show yourself first and foremost that there are no cracks in yourself that you cannot repair and overcome.
