What is engagement? I’m not talking rings on fingers, about the period between acceptance of a proposal through to marriage. I’m talking about how we get on with life.
For me it is your emotional attachment to, and your interaction with the world and the fact that you want to wake up in the morning and want to live your life for all you can. Professionally it’s not just for a salary in a job, but for the fact that you work for a company where you are valued. It’s about loving your job, because this is not just the career you have chosen, but more importantly this is the company you have specifically chosen to be part of. If you think about it, at some point you have made a conscious decision to be part of where you work through your application for employment and then coming on board.
The same goes for where you are in life. We all are where we are through a combination of decisions, whether conscious or subconsciously made. It’s about the being part of the big picture, and knowing you are valued - because you are. It is about being passionate about making it work. “It” being every task we face and how we carry ourselves and conduct ourselves in seeing it through. Not just the task in hand but being hungry for the next challenge too.
Engagement is crucial to continually moving forward, and to be the best we can be as who we are. I am not saying everything is in life is perfect, life has many injustices, but when we want to be part of the solution, that is when we make things better. When we are truly engaged that’s when we shine. We are all afforded the same opportunities, it is up to us to make the most of them. The majority of highly successful people came from nothing, but with engagement and a lot of hard work they got to where they are. It’s a pretty simple formula when you think about it.
We are here to work together, regardless of background, or social standing. To support each other and help each other grow. We are all part of a team, one that stretches beyond the homes we sit in. We are part of a global movement of like minded people who want better for all.
We are all part of the world and together we make world all that we can. This is our world, let’s look after it. We have the power to effect change - when we truly engage.
