Wherever I May Roam...

Every man woman and child has the right to roam this earth. The right to explore, the right to be free. The right to go to countries far and wide. To experience new cultures, to drink in the beauty of your new surroundings and to seek your pot of gold at the end of whatever rainbow you chase.

Many of us, just like myself have moved away from ‘home’. We have sought out adventures new and blazed our trails wherever the setting sun has taken us. Some journeys may even be thousands of miles. The thing is, we have all made that conscious decision to explore. It doesn’t matter if it is for work or for a new life, we have closed one door moving forwards always as we pick new doors to open.

This week we have again learned of others for whom the journey of hope, fuelled by trepidation and expectation was cut so tragically short. In particular the heart breaking images of Óscar Alberto Martínez Ramírez, 25, and his 23 month old daughter Valeria. Their bodies face down in the Rio Grande after being swept away in abject horror to their watery graves. Why? Why would anyone risk such a potentially treacherous journey? For hope, for the potential to have a life that brings all their dreams come true. For a new start. O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

Now there’s an oxymoron!

Sadly there are those that would deny others the opportunity to have the life of their dreams. To have a life of happiness and opportunity. Xenophobia will never lend to progress the world. It will only ever end in the tears of others - the ones who deserve better.

I believe we all should have the opportunity to go forth and make our lives wherever we want. We can do our best to be all we can. When we look at the ocean we should look at it as shimmering pathway to utopia.

So when it comes to you exploring, the world is only as big as you make it, and the oceans are simply puddles along the way. Gaze out over the ocean and dream of far away lands.

Rover, wanderer, nomad, vagabond, call me what you will...
