Best Foot Forward...

This week the United Kingdom and indeed the world has found a new hero. Is it a bird, is it a plane? Is it a caped crusader?  No, it’s a 99yr old World War Two veteran Captain Tom Moore, who has launched a sponsored walk with a difference. This extraordinary gentleman set out to raising £1,000 ($1,250) for the National Health Service by completing 100 laps of his garden before his 100th birthday on 30 April. He began his walks on Monday 6 April and completed his final 100th lap yesterday (16 April).

For anyone of that age to set out on a physical challenge is quite remarkable, but to take it on with the determination to raise money for such a worthy cause is something to be commended and revered by all.

Ok, so Captain Moore set out to raise £1000, but something pretty spectacular happened. The United Kingdom and then the world got behind him. His fund raising page has regularly crashed due to traffic and people from all over the globe have wanting to donate to his cause. If anyone reading this has already donated, you will know it has probably been the most inspiring thing you will ever be involved with. Seeing friends update his progress throughout the day and his total just continue to grow exponentially.

So, we’ve already mentioned his goal to raise £1000 ($1250). I am pleased to say that he hit his target. Not only did he hit it but he hit it out of the ball park. Not only did he hit it out of the ball park, but he hit it out into orbit. At the time of posting this he has raised an absolutely mind blowing £17.5m ($21.58m).

Let they sink in, an about to be 100yr old has just raised £17.5m for charity.

£17.5m....

So this got me thinking, what can the rest of us do? I mean I donated, as I know many of my friends have too. But what could we do, at whatever age we are, to do good for others?

His target was £1000 and he was out to show that his time is not yet up. He certainly does not fear the reaper.

What a truly wonderful gentleman.

This is just incredible. It shows the battling spirit never dies, the body may become tired and become weak with age, but spirit lasts forever.

One step at a time, any of us can do anything...
