I Really Must...

When is the last time you thought to yourself “I really must...”?

Honestly, when was the last time you said those words either into yourself or out loud. Or worse, as you’re reading this you are now thinking “I do that all the time”. The thing is we are all guilty of it, sometimes it can be circumstance that stops us, other times it can just be our own hesitance that makes us put it off for another day - sometimes another lifetime.

When circumstance stops us, then we just need to adjust our thinking to something that is achievable. Why? Well the first reason is simple, we adapt and evolve our thinking to what we can do in the interim. By doing so we are already positioning ourselves for what could be our mid term or long term goals. Whether we realise it or not, just by the very concept of thinking “I really must...” we are planning a favourable outcome. That’s the cool bit. We already are thinking of what we want and how we are going to make it happen.

The words themselves are pretty damn significant too, because it’s pretty much making a promise to yourself - from yourself. Think about it, “really” is the intention and “must” is the promise. So you’re making that commitment to you.

It doesn’t even have to be anything particularly big or significant. However it should (actually, it must) be something you decide to enable and make happen. Each little one will add to your confidence of believing in yourself and understanding that you can do everything you need to, and more importantly everything you want to. It’s kind of like a perpetual motion machine in your mind. Once you start it moving it just keeps going, and going, and going. I once had it explained to me in a different context by my karate grand master Shiomitsu Sensei. He was explaining how power builds up in movement for an attack. It starts in the core of your body and turns over and over like a tiny acorn in the sea, but as it moves throughout your body to either a kick or a punch it builds all the power of a tsunami.

The very same principal can be applied to what you “really must do”. Every day it should start with the small stuff but let it build and grow then develop into something so huge it could change you life forever.

Just got to set the wheels in motion...
