Imagine this...

Our imagination is something that is almost preconditioned to fade as we get older. If you think about it, as kids we can use our imagination to come up with all sorts of scenarios in play. Whether it be a space fighter pilot, a super hero or a fairy princess. Doesn’t really matter, the key is imagination. For those of us who have kids of our own, how brilliant is/was it to watch them play and to interact with their imaginations as they could make even the most inanimate of objects the most wonderful props for whatever adventures they were undertaking. A simple stick can become a wizards wand (kinda makes sense that one), or the same stick could become a laser blaster. The simplest piece of cloth can enable super hero powers as a cape. A blanket strewn on the floor can become the wildest of oceans, or burning seas of lava. All these and more have been times when I have loved being at play with my kids as they were younger. Encouraging their imaginations and bringing about the most wonderful of times.

So that got me thinking that imagination shouldn’t just be restricted to kids at play. Imagination is what can make a difference to us as adults when it comes to problem solving. It’s the ability to look past the problem, and often find something that may seem uncompelling, but is key to the solution of what we are trying to solve.

I guess what I’m trying to say is no matter what age we are we should never be afraid to let our imagination loose from time to time. You might just be surprised what it can release when it comes to trying to see through a problem or situational adaptivity.

We have all been in situations in our adult lives, whether professionally or personally, where we have had to think outside the box to find a way through. No matter how complex the problem, or how difficult our lives may seem at any given time, we find a way. We tap into that subconscious creativity to adapt/achieve/survive. It’s amazing what you are capable of without even realising it. It all comes down to being able to let loose what’s already in your mind. The kind of stuff that came as second nature as a kid, but we now need to focus on as we get older.

“Laughter is timeless, imagination has no age, and dreams are forever”.

Basically, creative thinking is merely imagination for grown ups...
