As we approach a Christmas time each year we are treated/exposed to a feast of Christmas adverts on television that with each year seem to want i outdo each other and even themselves from the previous year.
Perhaps in the UK the most eagerly awaited is that of John Lewis, a department store that set the bar high in the caliber of its adverts for the past few years.
However this year there has been one advertisement that has really caught my attention. It’s not from the UK, but instead from Germany. It is from the Dutch pharmaceuticals company Doc Morris. Not only has this gone viral - for all the right reasons, but it is truly brings home the true meaning of humanity.

People across the world have been watching it, and sharing it, and it’s been bringing tears of joy to many.
It tells the story of an old man who lives alone and misses his family. He decides to hunt out an old kettlebell in his shed and initially, can barely lift it. But with determination he keeps going to reach his goal. That goal is when he presents his granddaughter with a star for the top of the Christmas tree and can lift her to place the star with pride atop the tree.
The ad finishes with the slogan written in German which translates as: ‘So that you can take care of what really matters in life.’
This resonates because at this time of year there is a lot of happiness and joy, but for some a lot of loneliness. But if you find yourself on the other end of the spectrum (I know I have been been), don’t feel that you need to be pressured into being anything more than you can be on any individual day.
If Christmas is hard,
And you’re struggling through.
Just do what you can,
Because what matters is you.
Don’t worry about being merry,
Don’t need to bright.
Just do what you can,
And all will be right.
For me it is really is about how we look at where we are and what we are facing. Each of us has something different, and each and every one of us is different. But most of all, it should be about life. How we look at, how we should approach life, and how to live it:
No bullshit,
No vanity,
No fairytales,
No gimmicks.
Just determination and love.
Sure; isn’t that all we all need...
