The Long and Winding Road...

So here we are the first week of a new year already under our belts. I think it’s flown in, I think the first week of every year does the very same. It’s the excitement of what is yet to unfurl, and the settling back into routine after the festive break.

As the goals for the year are established and we have our sights set on what’s to come, and the road ahead is what we all need to focus on. A simple thing like when we learn to drive, one of the first things we are taught is ‘keep your eyes on the road’. A simple concept with a huge connotation. Well for me it does. For me it’s about always looking forward and looking to what you can do to do better. I’ve said before it’s not about being in competition with anyone else, but only trying to do better than you have done before. It’s about looking to what you have yet to come. That’s not to say you forget about the present; you take with you what you need to. Leaving behind that which doesn’t serve to be in your future.

Nothing will ever come from looking back, other than to reflect. But reflections shouldn’t be all consuming, they should be  used as reminders of what your journey so far has taught you. Use these lessons as a means to be stronger and better positioned for whatever comes on the road ahead.

When we know better, we can do better.

Use your knowledge as power and use it to pave the road ahead. There may be the odd pothole, maybe even the occasional speed bump, your road may even be long and winding. But you have the power to build the road and as you go it will get smoother, and smoother, and smoother.

Dwelling on what has been will only ever slow down your journey to what will be. Besides, you can’t reverse through life...
