Fools Gold…

Quite often we will see something that catches our eye and sparks an interest. Something that we may not have been looking for, but all of a sudden upon seeing it there is a want. A real want. A burning want because it’s shiny and new, and different.

And that’s fine… to an extent.

Why? Well I guess it’s because if we didn’t see new things around us we would never grow. It’s not necessarily material stuff, but can be anything that brings us benefit in one way or another. Whether it be something to have and to hold. Something to learn or something simply to admire. I use the term admire rather than covet, purely because if something is highly coveted, then it generally isn’t something that is going to bring you happiness - remember when I mentioned material stuff earlier?

Sometimes we need to be careful of going after ‘fools gold’. Sometimes we chase dreams, this in itself should be encouraged as we should always go after the opportunity to realise our dreams. But sometimes we can get blinded by fools gold. You know those times when something is full of promise but empty of substance? Don’t get it confused with hope. Hope is something that drives us all. I suppose what I’m saying is not to confuse it with being suckered into something that just isn’t going to bring anything to your life. We’ve all heard the saying “the grass is always greener on the other side”. Quite frankly that is bullshit. Apologies for swearing, but it is. The grass is greener where you want it to be. You make the ‘side’. You make the difference.

The same goes for going for gold. We all know that there is gold out there ready to be discovered, all around the world. And it all starts with someone being adventurous and brave enough to go after it. But the thing is you need to know what you want and go for it. Don’t get distracted by any shiny crap around you, don’t get suckered into anything that detracts you from your goal. From your gold.

When you know what you want , there should be nothing in this world that stops you from getting it. Not now, not ever. Go for it, and start your very own treasure hunt. Know your worth and know what you want. Don’t get distracted from what you want. Don’t get distracted from what you are worth. Only then will you find the true treasure in your life. Seek out what brings worth, in whatever form you want it.

Just don’t go chasing fools gold…
