What language would you think in, if you were born deaf?
This is something that randomly come to mind this week. Whilst it is completely obscure, and a more than a bit random, it kind of has a validity to it.
Why is this valid? I guess it’s because in a world where there’s a lot of conflict in regards of nationality, especially the current atrocities happening in Ukraine, then we perhaps need to think outside the norm.
The question is completely real. We are taught the language of our birth country or our parents. Sometimes this can be different in both cases. However, the bottom line is we are taught. We are taught, we are conditioned, and we are moulded but the ‘who, what and where’ of our formative years. As we get older it is important to question everything. More importantly, never take “Just because” as an acceptable answer to anything.
We are witnessing volatility on a global scale, and there is so much of it that can be attributed to ignorance, as well as intolerance. Sadly there are many that fall prey to propaganda, and alas follow the masses without understanding the complexity of a situation, or the significance of their actions on the outcome. Many, many people are being hurt because of a ‘follow the leader’ mentality.
I’m not saying we need a global uprising. We do however need a greater level of understanding, questioning and educating to take place. We need people to question first before blindly following.
We need people to be conscious about what language they think in.
The more we question, the more we learn.
The more we learn, the more we become…
