Say My Name…

You die twice. The first time is when you physically stop breathing and ebb away, but the second and perhaps the more powerful is the last time someone says your name.

This is a quote that has been attributed to many, from Ernest Hemingway, to street artist Banksy. But irrespective of the origin, it is something that we all should know. Why? I suppose it’s because for the second ‘death’ to come as far away as possible, we must live a life that journals us forever and a day.

We owe it to ourselves, that we live a life worth reliving in fond memories of everyone who is lucky enough to be part of our journey. No matter how big or small a part they play. We owe it to whoever speaks our name for the very last time, because they are the one who, knowingly or not, the ultimate holder of our story.

Most of us will want to be remembered with kind words. Some even with a laugh and a joke. But I guess best of all is with a warm smile.

So what are you doing to make that happen? What are you doing right now?  What are you doing today, or this week, month or year to make your story worth telling?

What about you would make you smile to tell your story to another? What, as you close your eyes tonight to ebb off into slumber, will have you reaffirm to yourself “you did good today”.

Here’s to being remembered forever…
