Ever Upward...

This week the world lost Stan Lee. I am not a collector of comic books, and i will admit to only having seen a few of the Marvel movies. However, what resonated with me when I read of his passing is just how much he influenced so many people with a very positive message. Having seen him interviewed a few times, and in the cameo roles of the movies, there was always a twinkle in his eye. I liked that. I liked the fact that even in his advancing years he had that twinkle and still had all the awe and wonder he first manifested so many years prior when he and Jack Kirby brought to the masses a new breed of hero. A super hero that could be flawed yet still amazing. The thing is the twinkle in his eye. You just knew by looking at him that he had so many wonderful stories to tell, and yet so many more still to give to the world - whether this world or the next.

He showed us it was possible to exceed beyond the realms of the normal human being irrespective of where you come from, or what hang ups you had about yourself.

More than this he brought super powers to kids all around the world who pretended to be their favourite super heros as the played out their fantasies and escaped to a magical universe in their imagination. It didn't matter if it was Hulk or Thor, Captain America or perhaps his most iconic character of all Spider-Man. It doesn't matter race, ethnicity, creed or even disability; everyone can be a superhero. If we can escape into the world where we can become Spider-Man then we can do anything. It's no coincidence he signed off with the Latin term "Excelsior" which translates simply as "Ever Upward".

Hold that thought!

Hold on to the realisation that you are already a superhero. You truly are. Hold on to the knowledge that you really can become anything you want to and your superpowers at there to be unleashed whenever you are ready to. Always believe that life is "Ever Upward".

Stan Lee was a legend to me because he made people who were different the superheroes. It doesn't matter how different you are from anyone else, take pride in the fact you are and remember you have more power than any superhero that has gone before.

Superheroes all of us.

#Excelsior
